Kroger and Meijer stores recall dark chocolate due to undeclared milk allergen

Kroger said in a release that people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of a“serious or life-threatening allergic reaction”if they consume any of the following products sold in bulk food bins: all natural chocolate covered coffee beans, cranberries, almonds, pretzel balls, ginger, and all natural dark chocolate raisins.
Even though there have been no reports of illness so far, Kroger said it had pulled these items from sale and initiated a customer recall notification system through register receipt tape messages and phone calls.
Kroger is currently waiting for the new nutrition labels to arrive, said the retail chain’s spokesperson, Rachel Hurst.
In a separate announcement by the FDA, three bulk chocolate products made by GKI Foods were also recalled by Meijer due to the same reason.
These products, including bulk dark chocolate almonds 18 oz, bulk dark chocolate cashews 18 oz, and bulk dark chocolate coffee beans, were sold at Meijer stores in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Wisconsin.
“There have been no illnesses reported to date… Consumers who have purchased this product should discontinue use immediately and return the product to the nearest Meijer store for a full refund,”said the FDA.
